The classifications of prostate cancer are varied and the most accurate are those that rely exclusively on the surgical findings.

ABCD Classification

The most common classification is referred to the extension of tumor (A, B, C, D). The explanation of this technique has been adapted to current knowledge, it was once considered the PSA as part of this classification. But we know that its usefulness is limited because the PSA is elevated by many causes other than prostate cancer.

Stage A prostate cancer

The cancer is localized within the prostate and is coincidentally when this is removed to correct a blockage. It is usually curable. (more…)

Weizmann Institute scientists develop a new method of conducting the treatment of metastatic prostate cancer in the bones

When prostate cancer, a leading cause of cancer death among men, it spreads through the body, most often goes to the bones where it is particularly difficult to treat. The bone metastasis is involved in more than 70% of deaths from prostate cancer. Prof. Zelig Eshhar, Director of the Department of Immunology Weizmann Institute of Science has now shown how it can be redirected to the bones that are effective treatment for prostate cancer. Therapy of Prostate Cancer

Therapy of prostate cancer is risky for the heart and bones

Men treated with androgen deprivation therapy for prostate cancer are at high risk of fractures and death from cardiovascular causes.

The men advanced prostate cancer may receive androgen deprivation therapy (ADT, by its initials in English) to stop the production of testosterone, which promotes tumor growth.

Although ADT produces several adverse effects, so far there is a systematic review of the subject, wrote in the journal Cancer to Dr. Lockwood G. Taylor, Center for Health Sciences at the University of Texas at Houston.

no recent study has found that green tea there is a chemical substance, the polyphenon and, can slow the progression of prostate cancer.

The research, published in the journal American Cancer Prevention Research, has discovered that, thanks to this drug, some bio markers, including prostate specific antigen, vascular endothelial growth factor, and hepatocyte growth factor, normally used to indicate the presence of prostate cancer, were stable or even declining.

Diagnostic methods for prostate cancer

There are several diagnostic methods to detect prostate cancer, his confirmation will always be a part of pathological prostate analyzed for final diagnosis. The doctor through a series of both clinical and laboratory tests will be made to track the diagnosis.
